Ok, let me start off by saying, the information I have below about the 3 things I do at every session is not rocket science. In fact, the tips I share might seem super simple and obvious. But I’m telling you – they are so important and I wish someone had expressed just how important when I was starting out and in the early stages of building my photography business.
So grab a cup of coffee (or a cocktail), find a cozy spot to lounge and listen up!
3 Things I Do At Every Photography Session
#1 – Any special requests
Photographers need to know about things like clothing changes, props and sentimental spots at the shoot location. This is such great intel! I make mental notes of anything clients tell me, and make sure to touch on each request throughout their session (whenever possible). I’d say that most requests I get are within reason and things I can accommodate. On the rare occasion that they are not – at least I give the client a chance to put it on my radar so I can gently guide them toward a more suitable option.
#2 – Set the tone
#3 – What happens next
Ending the session by providing this info helps set the expectation and saves you from having to answer a lot of “when, how, where” emails in the days following their session. Also, setting the expectation of delivering their images within 3 weeks allows you to “under-promise and over-deliver”. If you’re able to send images just one or two weeks after the session – the client will be thrilled (and impressed).
There is so much that goes into starting, running and growing a photography business – and fostering a healthy and happy relationship with each client is vital to your success. I hope you take these three important tips into consideration going into your next session.
