It’s something relatively simple, but it’s results can be spectacular! Combined with the right location and time of day, you can take a photograph:
I don’t know about you, but I certainly prefer the photograph to the right! Taken only 2 minutes apart, this kind of shot is only achieved with off-camera lighting. You might remember Rochelle’s portrait shoot from last week, and I thought it would be fun to show the difference a little can have! With only my 550EX Speedlite, a tripod and ghetto wireless trigger; I have everything I need to recreate this photo. I went for a dramatic look with the sky underexposed to make it appear as though the sun had already set. I don’t always get the extra time to add in another light (in addition to the sun) but after this shoot, I feel inspired to add it to the mix more often!
Full behind the scenes lighting set up and you can see what an impact one light can have!
I usually prefer to shoot in all natural light (why mess with something already so beautiful) but with more experience, I’m loving the dramatic and striking images that off-camera lighting can produce. What do you think, all natural, or a little added light?
