Every wedding season is as unique as the couples I photograph. At the end each year, I’m left with a hard drive full of beautiful photographs (literally thousands) but more importantly – I’m left with memories I’ll carry with me for years to come.
As much as I adore sweeping photographs of a bridal party and perfectly styled invitation suites – it’s the moments in between that motivate me to stay behind my camera year after year.
In lieu of my annual wedding season wrap-up post, I’ve compiled 1-2 photographs from each wedding to highlight. These photos are a representation of my favorite moments in each of these special days. They’re not all perfectly posed, and maybe not even in the best light by professional standards – but they are full of emotion, meaning and wonderful memories.
Favorite Wedding Moments of 2018
Watching Stephany and her girls get ready was one of my favorite parts of their day. The air was full of excitement, yet everyone was calm. Stephany was surrounded by so much love, friendship, and support. Every bride needs a group of friends like these ladies!
Chris’ reaction upon seeing his bride is one of the most memorable reactions ever! The love and joy in his eyes at the first look and then again watching Jessica walk down the aisle will forever be my favorite! Thank you for sharing your heart and raw emotion with us!
I adore intimate weddings, and this backyard celebration was one of my favorites! Watching Stephanie and Sean hold each other and look out onto their families after their first dance gave me all the feels!
When Alida’s sister broke from her toast to sing a song with their grandmother and brother, I thought I was going to burst into a thousand happy pieces. This was (by far) the sweetest toast, followed by one of the most enjoyable and fun receptions!
Rain on your wedding day is never what a couple dreams of, but Dave and Krista weren’t bothered one bit. The best part was that the rain clouds began to part just in time for their portraits. We took full advantage of this time, which resulted in some of my favorite images of the year!
So many special moments happen at weddings – and I never take it lightly that I am witness to many of them. While taking portraits of Laura, a hummingbird landed on a plant right next to her and watched her intently. She mentioned with tears in her eyes, that her mother who had passed away loved hummingbirds and she took this as a sign that her mother was with her on her wedding day. I will never forget this intimate moment I shared with Laura.
These two couldn’t have been more excited to get married, and their reception was full of so much joy! They laughed, danced, and fully immersed themselves in their day. You would think this happens with all couples – but honestly, it’s rare to see two people so IN the moment. It was so refreshing and amazing to witness!
I’m accustomed to working with clients who are shy, but it does require a certain skill and finesse to get them to open up. I was so happy to see Connie and Dexter come out of their shell, joke and laugh with each other during their portraits because that’s what I wanted to capture. Them being them. Them loving each other.
This group really set the standard for dance party #goals in 2018. The wedding was gorgeous, but the reception was one for the books! There were so many people there to celebrate Catherine and Asagai – all from different parts of their lives – but with one goal in mind: To celebrate the love that this couple has for each other, and dance of course!
Being the relaxed and cool couple they are, Kim and Ismael weren’t worried about missing out on portrait time on their wedding day. Their focus was on their family, and even though the sun was fading quickly, they were walking on cloud nine – and their portraits ended up exuded so much genuine joy!
This breathtaking day was full of so many (I mean, soooooo many) beautiful moments. My favorite has to be their second kiss as husband and wife! Their family looking on and that incredible Pelican Hill backdrop made for a stunning image!
So there you have it. My favorite wedding memories of 2018! It really was such a great year of weddings which prompts me to say THANK YOU to each and every one of my couples. I am just a small part of your day and your story – but it’s my privilege to walk alongside you during such a special time.
Tell me – what was your favorite wedding moment? I’d love to know, leave a comment below!
