Little known fact about me: I am the daughter of a veterinarian and I spent a large portion of my childhood hanging out in an animal clinic. Naturally, my love of animals started young, so I always laugh a little inside when couples ask me if I’m okay with pets being incorporated into their photos. OF COURSE!! I’m always game for this. Pets are the center of many of our lives, so it’s no wonder many couples ponder how to include pets in a wedding. Over the years, I’ve seen some really cute ideas come to life — so I thought a blog post was in order. Grab a snack, curl up with your furry friend and enjoy!
How To Include Pets In A Wedding
Ring Bearer/ Walking Down The Aisle
What better way is there to show off your favorite furry friend then to have them walk down the aisle? This could be as the “ring bearer” or by having the groom, bride or family member walk them down the aisle. Regardless, you and your guests will love seeing their happy little faces strut down the aisle as the center of attention. It’s a crowd pleaser (for sure) and a great photo moment!
Many couples are opting to include their pets in their wedding day portraits. This is the perfect opportunity to take your first “family photo” and can be a little easier to coordinate if your ceremony venue or church doesn’t allow pets.
Maybe you have a lot of pets and it just doesn’t make sense to have them physically there on your wedding day. Why not have them share the top of your cake? Or maybe as full size cutouts for guests to take pictures with? I’ve also seen clients use photos of their pets as decor on tables throughout the cocktail hour. The ideas are endless, and this is a very cute way to personalize your design elements even more.
Truth be told, many wedding venues don’t allow pets. So if having them there on your wedding day just isn’t an option, why not include them in your engagement session? Pets are always welcome and they create some great, natural photo ops throughout your session. Just be sure to bring along a friend or family member to help wrangle your pet if you don’t want them included in the entire session.
