Irvine Engagement Session: Clare and Frank

This Irvine engagement session is not the first time Clare has been in front of my camera – and for that, I am truly grateful. In the early days of my profession, when I was busy building my portfolio, I asked everyone I knew to do a shoot with me. This was critical in my practicing both the technical aspects of the camera – but also in engaging and directing people. Clare was one of the people who graciously accommodated me and I honestly think her shoot was a turning point in my career. Watching Clare during that first shoot was invigorating because I could see her coming alive with each shot – and this fueled my confidence and drive.

Clare has been there for me throughout many stages of my life, and I couldn’t be more excited that she’s found Frank! And frankly (pun intended) I’ve ever seen her happier! For their engagement session, I wanted to find an extra special location. I scouted out a few great local spots, but although spring isn’t over yet, most of our Southern Cali landscape is already very dry. My tried and true favorite spots were not going to cut it!

I came along this still-green Irvine spot running one night and couldn’t get it out of my mind. It’s hard to even describe. The land is basically an aqueduct between a housing development and the freeway. The ground is completely slanted so that added a unique challenge — and we may or may not have been trespassing — but that’s neither here nor there now :).

I’m so glad I 1) stumbled upon this lovely spot 2) approached Clare with my crazy vision and 3) she trusted me. I love every single photo so much — but love seeing my friend so happy even more. Congratulations Frank and Clare – I cannot wait to drink and dance my ass off at your wedding next year!!!
