Once upon a time, I was just a young, hopeful grasshopper studying in the photography program at Orange Coast College. Back then, my dreams of being a successful photographer were just beginning to blossom, and I was spending the majority of my time in the darkroom (yeah, we shot everything film). Although the competition in school was fierce – I loved that part, too! One of the things I look back most fondly on in regards to those school days is the connections I formed – and Damian and Sara are great examples of that!
While at OCC, our paths crossed on a pretty regular basis – and if I remember correctly, Damian was a teachers aide and Sara worked in the lab. Seems like ages ago and if you would’ve told college-aged me that in ten years I’d be photographing Damian and Sara’s Los Angeles Arboretum maternity session — I wouldn’t have believed you. Fast forward many years and I couldn’t be more thrilled! Side note – Damian actually now teaches at OCC and I got to come speak at his Wedding and Event class last year – super fun!
Los Angeles Arboretum Maternity Session
It’s always an honor when I’m asked to document a special moment in someone’s life, but when your couple happens to BOTH be amazing and successful photographers, well it’s extra flattering. I definitely had to bring my A-game to this maternity session! Luckily, Damian and Sara are so easy and fun to work with and the location they chose was ah-mazing!
This was my first time photographing at the Los Angeles Arboretum, and I’m positive it won’t be the last! This place is simply stunning! The bamboo forest, the pink blooms all around, and of course the obvious admiration Damian has for Sara and her adorable baby bump added some extra special feels to this session.
I’m so thrilled to see these two become parents, and I know they will look back on these photos with the fondest of memories and excitement for such a special season of their life!
