Believe it or not – I didn’t meet Alida and Malik until the day of their Los Rios Street engagement session. This actually happens more times than not – me not meeting couples until we all show up to the shoot. I know that’s hard to believe, but the technology affording me the ability to work virtually (I <3 you, Skype) coupled with the fact that many of my brides and grooms don’t live in Southern California make it so. While this can provide some challenges, I think it’s actually quite fun! Not meeting until the engagement session adds a bit of mystery and anticipation – and it also helps to lay down a solid foundation leading up to the wedding day.
What kind of foundation, you may ask? A foundation of trust, of course!
When a photographer and their couple can trust each other, starting with the engagement session, this trust spills over into their wedding day. Most couples’ heads are already functioning on adrenaline or nerves the day of their wedding, and the excitement and stress can be straight up overwhelming. The last thing I want couples like Alida and Malik stressing over is their photographer, posing or the outcome of their photos. Establishing trust with me from the get-go allows my couples to focus on what is truly important – each other, their families and friends.
Los Rios Street Engagement
This Los Rios Street engagement session was the full of trust building. Alida and Malik are based in Washington, D.C., but they were visiting Southern Cal around the holidays. Time was short and schedules were packed, but these two were very flexible in order to fit in their engagement shoot. I don’t typically hold sessions mid-day because the lighting is best closest to sunset, but Alida and Malik had an early evening flight to catch so we worked with it! Thankfully the ((always beautiful)) Los Rios Street in San Juan Capistrano provided a picture perfect background! And the time of day really turned out to be a non-issue…the lighting was gorgeous. And bonus – I’m happy to report that Alida and Malik made their flight. :)
These two were such a joy to photograph and I cannot wait to see their wedding plans come together! Just a few months to go! Stay tuned!
