They say diamonds are a girls best friend, but I beg to differ. Emerald’s are more my style….as you can see by this Mission San Jan Capistrano engagement session with Emerald and Nathan. Totally head-over-heels for this couple, their style and this location.
Let’s start with the couple. Basically, Emerald and Nathan give me all the feels. Is this getting weird? If so – let me explain. I work with so many couples as a wedding photographer and when I say “I’ve seen it all. I mean, I’ve seen it allllllll“. And these two, well, they just click. I’m not sure how else to explain it, but I bet everyone who knows them would agree.
Next – their style. Clean, crisp and bedazzled in emerald color tones (#perfection). I mean, if your given name is that of a bold jewel tone, you might feel a bit of pressure to live up to a certain beauty standard. And, Emerald, you do so in the loveliest of ways.
Last, this location. Mission San Juan Capistrano is an old standby for me as a professional photographer, but it’s also one of my favorites. The architecture, wood tones, brick work and greenery is a classic background for any photo shoot. So, I am always pumped when couples or families suggest meeting up there!

I sometimes mention in my blog posts that I am aware of the fact that getting up in front of a camera with someone you barely know can feel, um, intimidating. There are different ways photographers can mask that and still produce pretty pictures, but it’s always a plus when you don’t have to work that hard. This happens when the couple is so comfortable with each other that they couldn’t care less if you are there with your big bulky lens, snapping away. Emerald and Nathan were definitely that couple and I cannot wait to get them back in front of my camera for their upcoming wedding at The Villa!
