Spring is in full force here in Southern California and I couldn’t be more excited! I love this season for so many reasons – the blooming flowers, beautiful sunshine, and perfect beach days, just to name a few. I especially love this time of year because it’s the best season to get outside and experience some of the unique activities that SoCal has to offer. The options are endless, and it can be really overwhelming to sift through all of them (been there!). But this year I’ve been given an extra dose of motivation since I now get to share many of these activities with my son and re-explore them as a family of three.
I often forget how many things are accessible, right here in our community, so I thought it would be fun to share some ideas with you! Whether you call Southern California home or are just passing through on a vacation – these are some of my favorite things to do and places to visit on a perfect spring day.
My Favorite Springtime Activities
Strawberry Donuts from The Donut Man – This place is a SoCal foodie staple, and for good reason. Their strawberry donuts are well worth the drive to Glendora. And since it’s spring, they are *almost* guaranteed to have seasonal strawberry donuts. Delish!
The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch – For years I heard about these flower fields, but I always seemed to miss them. Thankfully, a few years ago I finally made it to Carlsbad to see rows and rows of these colorful beauties. Plan a stop to see them on your way to San Diego. You can make a whole day out of it!
Picnic at a Local Park – Spending time outside is always at the top of my favorites activities, and spring is the best time for a picnic (charcuterie board, and wine are greatly encouraged). Grab your friends, significant other, or kids, and head over to your fav park spot. I always like to bring a few games and my favorite outdoor mat! Bonus points if you can leave your phone in the car and just be.
Strawberry Tours at Tanaka Farms – Can you tell California likes her strawberries? Happening every weekend until July, you can take a wagon ride around Tanaka Farms’ 30-acre property. The wagon stops in different fields so you can taste the seasonal vegetables. The last stop is the berry patch where you will learn how to select and pick the best strawberries. This is so much fun with kids, and I will for sure be taking my son in the coming weeks!
Spring Cleaning – Okay, okay! Your probably thinking “WTF Kaysha, this isn’t exactly a fun activity!” Hear me out… I love starting the new season with some serious deep-cleaning and reorganization. I feel like it gives me a fresh start, sparks my creativity, and I’m suddenly surrounded by a whole new aesthetic inside my home (and out!). Getting rid of stuff makes room for more in our lives (did I mention it’s cathartic?). I recommend checking out Simplified by Emily Ley, she has an amazing Ruthless Declutter Challenge coming up! And for all my Type-A friends, you’re gonna love her Spring Cleaning Checklist!
Happy exploring (and/or cleaning)!
