Vendor Spotlight: Pixies Petals

Sep 11, 2013 | Tips & Tricks

I know first hand how amazing Leslie of Pixies Petals is, and I loved every second working with her on my own wedding last year. From both a brides and vendors perspective she is a true artist and really collaborates with her couples to create personal touches throughout her designs. Constantly going the extra mile and treating each event as her own, Leslie has wowed couples throughout Southern California since 2006. Today we get an special Q&A with Leslie herself, with some great advice on choosing a florist!

Tell us a little bit about how you got started in weddings?

I’ve always been creative…I really loved the process of designing my own wedding and I originally thought I wanted to be   a coordinator. After helping a few friends out I decided that I loved the décor and design aspect of things the most, so I   signed up for floral design school in 2005. I then worked in a retail flower shop for a few years and branched out on my  own.

How would you describe your artistic style?

This is a difficult one for me as I’m capable of creating most styles.  What I’m in love with right now is texture. I love  to add unexpected details into my arrangements such as unique berries & foliage’s. However I find my style is always evolving as I’m constantly inspired by different things.

What inspires you?

I love to make something different for each couple. I really want to find out what makes you tick and what is unique to  your relationship with each other & then find some way to incorporate that in your décor. I don’t want to just recreate a photo you found…. I want to make it special for you.

What do you love about weddings?

I love the happiness that the couple shares in the joining of their lives together. I really love to see everything set up when all the décor elements come together.

What are the most important factors couples should consider when choosing a florist?

I think design style and compatibility should be your focus.

  • Someone who you get along with and that responds in a reasonable time frame to your requests.
  • Someone whose work is a representation of what you would like to see on your special day.
  • Someone who is going to go the extra mile to make things unique and special and who gets what “your” about   above all else.

What sets you apart from others in your field?

I want every event I create to look like it could be featured in a magazine or on a blog. I’m always trying to evolve design styles to make something special just for your day. One way I do this is to keep a personalized Pinboard for each client  where I can post my thoughts and ideas & you can give feedback.  I maybe out shopping and see a flower or container we hadn’t originally considered that would be perfect for your event. So I snap a photo and email it to you or upload it to your personalized Pinboard.

What advice do you have for newly engaged couples?

Trust in the vendors you hired!! Make sure to communicate what you love, dislike, and your expectations but have some flexibility and be comfortable with their knowledge. We all want to make your wedding absolutely breathtaking. So relax, put trust in your vendors and remember why you hired us in the first place !!
