Vendor Spotlight: Serene Bridal Beauty

Apr 18, 2013 | Tips & Tricks

Serene Bridal Beauty is my absolute favorite hair and makeup team. Not only have I worked with the owner Evelyn on many events and shoots, but she did the hair and makeup for my own wedding. She helped make me feel comfortable, beautiful, so on my wedding day I really did feel my best! For that alone I will always feel grateful, and I want all my brides to feel just as beautiful on their big day. I’m excited to introduce you to Evelyn, and share a bit more about choosing the right beauty stylist for your wedding.

Tell us a little bit about how you got started in weddings?

I was actually a big tomboy growing up. Always into sports and hanging out with the boys. My mother was the one that inspired me to do what I do now. She is such a girly girl, always dolled up before ever leaving the house and refuses to wear anything but heels. On my free time, she would have me watch her put on her makeup and do her hair. That started making me more interested in the creative things you can do with styling. As I got older, I started playing more with makeup. I would pick out the most popping colors and create a crazy eyeshadow palette to play with on a daily basis for school. Soon my classmates and friends started asking me to help them with makeup and hair. I knew then, that I wanted this to become a career and my lifestyle.

After high school, I attended cosmetology school at Citrus Cosmetology in Glendora. I was very serious about making this into a career, so after graduating, I scheduled the closest State Board Test they had available. This 8 hour course was intense, but at the end of it all, I past with a license given to me to legally with the title “Cosmetologist”. This was one of the best days of my life! I didn’t want to stop there, I wanted to be a certified makeup artist as well. I enrolled in Make-Up Designory Academy in Burbank. After taking a 5 month course in Beauty makeup and Special Effects, I became CERTIFIED and dang proud of it. :)

Fast forward after doing lots of side gigs, commercial, and music videos to get my foot in the door… I decided to apply for a well known wedding company, because making other feel beautiful was always my goal. Luckily, they hired me as a Lead Stylist for weddings, meaning I got to work on the bride, which is always a big deal. After lots of experience, I decided it was time to start my own wedding business.

Here I am now owner of Serene Bridal Beauty and very proud to be a master stylist for future brides and bridal parties. Making others feel confident and beautiful on their wedding day is my ultimate goal, and brings so much joy to my life.

How would you describe your artistic style?

Soft, Natural, and Organic.

What inspires you?

Makeup and hair styling involves being creative. Creativity inspires me to want to do more. My clients also inspire me when I see how a transformation impacts them so positively on their big day.

What do you love about weddings?

I love the happiness that shows on the brides face when they see their hair and makeup transformed and are so thankful for it. It gives me warm accomplished feeling.

What are the most important factors couples should consider when choosing a hair and makeup artist?

Your wedding is one of the most important time in your life. Its a big deal! When choosing your stylist, make sure you are looking for an experienced wedding artist. Not only should your stylist understand wedding makeup and hair styles, but timing as well. Weddings are much different compared to walking into a salon to have your hair and makeup done for a special occasion. Your stylist should understand that, arriving on time and completing services on schedule is a major factor. The last thing we want to do is stress the bride out. Your stylist should also be able to take charge, understanding how to help make the preparation time run smoothly for the bridesmaids, mothers, and most of all the bride.

What sets you apart from others in your field?

During the first meeting with our clients (bridal preview), our goal is to really try understanding what the bride is asking for and also create a real connection with her. We build such a great relationship with our brides that we’ve styled everything from their engagement shoot, to their wedding day, and even their baby showers.

What advice do you have for newly engaged couples?

This is your big day and choosing the right stylist is pretty important. Make sure you do your research when hiring your stylist. Recommendations from your coordinator or photographer can be a great place to start. Your stylist should be experienced in the wedding industry, detail oriented, and understand the vision for your hair and makeup.
