The International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers recently published a great article on The Secret Life of Wedding Photographers. The results show the many misconceptions regarding what wedding photographers actually do all the time. Although only wedding photographers were interviewed for the story, I would argue that portrait photographer’s time is just as misunderstood.
The Perception: Photographers have a kickback job that only requires them to work once or twice a week, they have tons of free time and they frequently travel around the world.

The Reality: Photographers spend a relatively small amount of time photographing and much more time working in front of a computer and managing behind the scenes tasks. When you hire ANY photographer you are NOT just paying for their time to photograph your wedding or child. You are paying for editing, retouching, designing, and printing- all requiring experience and hours of work. Take a look the graph below and you’ll see that just like everyone else, photographers have a very real and demanding job that requires some serious multi-tasking abilities!

Great information! There is so much work that goes on behind the scenes, nice to see how it breaks down!
