Do you ever have one of “those days”? You know what I mean, right? Days where you hit your creative wall. Or days where you just can’t find the motivation to tackle your never-ending to-do list? Worse yet – do you ever have days when you feel like a failure?
Yeah, I get it. Me too.
And do you know what makes those days even harder? Being inundated with social media highlight reels of everyone you know – both professionally and personally — where you are left feeling like there life is perfect and yours is far from it.
It’s super easy to lose focus and mentally spiral when you are in comparison mode. One thing that helps me is just limiting my screen time. Honestly, I go full toddler style on myself. The less time I spend on social media and watching TV – the more focused, fulfilled and happy I feel (i.e. the less I feel like a total failure).
When You Feel Like A Failure
Besides limiting screen time, here are some other tips I’ve implemented in my life to avoid a negative mindset — and to nurture a positive one:
Turn On Your Favorite Tunes. Seriously, turn them on, crank them up and feel the beat! And then….grab your favorite bevvie, a pen, and notebook and start writing down all the things you’ve accomplished this year. This doesn’t have to be a task you spend a lot of time on, but making sure you’re documenting your successes (big and small) is so important to cultivating your mindset!
Take Time to Reflect + Digest. I’ll be the first to admit, that sometimes I have the habit of checking off accomplishments and before I reflect on them or let myself feel a sense of accomplishment, I’ve got my eyes set on the next goal. And that’s not healthy! Instead, when you finish a project, reach a goal, etc — make sure you are taking a moment or a day to let that success sink in!
Treat Yo’Self. You heard me right — make sure you are taking time to celebrate successes. This plays into the importance of self-care. The celebrations don’t have to elaborate or expensive — maybe you treat yourself to lunch out on your favorite patio, a mid-week date night with your love or even just a quick pedicure. Taking time to physically celebrate your successes is important. So, don’t forget to treat yo’self every once in a while!
So, what do you say? Are you ready to be honest with yourself about how badass you really are? Pulling yourself out of that negative mindset and comparison trap is huge for your personal and professional growth! Make it happen!
